What is a college consultant?
A college consultant assists students and families with understanding the college application process. College applications have become increasingly complex through the years, and consultants help by supporting students through the process. We educate you on how to make your applications stand out and effectively demonstrate your candidacy to admissions officers. We also strive to simplify the process by adopting organizational and time-management strategies and alleviating the stress for both students and parents.
When should I begin seeking a college consultant?
Whenever you are ready to apply to college. At ICC, we try to meet students wherever they are in the college application process and go from there. Applying to college is a process that differs from student to student - some may decide to start as early in high school, whereas others wait until their senior year. While we recommend beginning to think about applying to colleges as early as 9th grade to ensure you are following the right steps to strengthen your application, it's never too late to seek help. Even if you are in your senior year of high school and looking for admissions guidance, reach out to us today to talk about how you can strive towards your top choice colleges!
What is "college fit"?
College fit is an integral concept for the college admissions process. During the development of the college list, college fit helps determine which colleges match your academic, social, financial, and extracurricular needs. Considering your future career goals can be important when deciding on specific academic programs. At the end of the day, having a holistic college experience is not only about academics, but also about finding a university where you will be happy for the next four years of your life.
How can I begin working with you?
The first step is to schedule an initial consultation with Alisha. During the consult, you are welcome to ask questions about the application process and more information about services offered at ICC. We would briefly discuss your academic interests, profile, college preferences, and goals for the consulting process. The most important part of the meeting is for you to meet with Alisha to determine if partnering with ICC will be the right fit for you.

How is graduate admissions different from undergraduate admissions?
Undergraduate and graduate admissions can be vastly different. The main difference is that both masters and PhD programs focus on a specific field of study and your applications should reflect the ways in which you are prepared to pursue a graduate degree in your chosen field of study.
Instead of a Personal Statement that focuses on an autobiographical story, you will be writing a Statement of Purpose which focuses on why you want to pursue a graduate degree and how your life and work experiences has prepared you for your chosen course of study. Work experience from a relevant field of study is an integral part of the application. When applying to PhD or masters programs in STEM or clinical fields, research experience is typically required. If you are applying to business or humanities fields, work experience is typically required. Some graduate programs may also have academic prerequisites you would have to meet in order to apply to the university.
